Description
Mark’s 1997 release on MCA/Crosswind contains 11 original MJ compositions. Recorded at Nashville’s iconic Dark Horse Studios, the sessions included some of the town’s best musician, including guitarist John Foster (Beach Boys, Sammy Kershaw), pianist Dirk Johnson (Alan Jackson, Gene Watson, Dolly Parton, etc.), Grammy-winning songwriter and musician Don Henry, and mandolin legend and founder of New Grass Revival, Sam Bush. This is folk-rock, singer-songwriter music at its finest. The original artwork was created by popular North Carolina illustrator, Walter Stanford.
On “Blow the Man Down,” Michael St. Patrick of the band, Pocket Sounds, writes:
“We’ve all read music bios and memoirs from household names like Bob Dylan, Keith Richards, or Miles Davis. But what about the experience most of us musicians who aren’t household names have? The one where we scrape by, occasionally feeling like we’re on the cusp of great success, and other times wondering why we would choose this crazy life. Musician turned writer, Mark Johnson, has delivered that book, and it’s both funny and touching, whimsical and informative. A great read all around.”
